Svac is situated on a plateau above lake Sas ( Sasko Jezero in Montenegrin )some 8 kms from the Montenegrin-Albanian border.
Briefly : Svac is believed to have been founded in the 6th century , it was mentioned in the 11th century as an episcopal town that was conquered in 1183 by ruler Stefan Nemanja , 40 years later the Mongols took it and razed it to the ground. Historical sources indicate that Queen Jelena of Serbia ordered its reconstruction in the late 13th cent only to be utterly devasted in 1571 by the Turks , it has remained in ruin since...
What you see here in this photo is one of , according to legend , 365 churches that the town used to have ,well as many as there are days in a year . Two large ones still stand among the ruins , that of the Romansque Cathedral of St John the Baptist ( 1300 )-- here in this photo--- sitting on a ridge across the plateau and another one : the Church of St-Mary in Gothic style ( after 1300 )unseen down below to the left .The setting is interesting as one can see pretty-looking Lake Sasko to the right .
A storm was in progress over the area we barely managed to get out just in time before the dense clouds busted out.
Processed this one in black and white ,imo it makes the stone structure and dark clouds more dramatic i think .
1/80, f/5 , iso 100 , auot white balance in manual mode .
Have a look at the the other church ( in color ) and the pretty view of Lake Sasko we only partly see in this shot---in color )in the complementing WSs .
A big THANK YOU to Daisy for submitting the idea and opening up the theme of this Friday.
Thank you for looking ,
C

A dramatic scene is well captured along with a well written note, thanks for that Carol!

Great details and well shown contrasts within the image.
The sharpness and POV are well done, and B/W tones add another piece of depth and charm into the scene.
Good management of light and exposure, though the clouds at far tend to OE but overall, a strong picture IMO!

Have a nice weekend.

Greetings,
Paras

Great shot of these ruins and such a good idea to do a b/w postcard. The texture of the stone stands out well and the brooding sky adds to the mood. I like the addition of the small tree on the right side, it balances the composition.

Ol
It is an interesting architecture and you have choice a good perspective to show it. I like it. Good B/W choice and a good atmosphere...and I agree with you about "the drama mood".
Hope you are all right.

Carol,
A very moody shot of these ruins that is best rendered in monochrome. Sharp and detailed, with the various elements well composed, a very dramatic and original contribution to the Friday Theme.
Always A Pleasure,
LAB

Trying to imagine this in color, I think you made the right decision by going B&W for the scene and the weather condition. Good dof with sharp details and good contrast. Very well done, tfs.

Hi Carol,
Good details in this B&W presentation of this ruins of such an old architectural structure. Good contrast and a nice low POV. Quite a dramatic sky. You produced a rather old styled postcard which is an original approach to the theme.
Well done,

Francis Xavier

Hi Carol, Lovely architecture well presented with nice contrasts and tones, I think you were right to post this in B&W as the contrasts in the stonework stand out more. Nice shot. Best wishes

Bri

Very attractive B&W with good application of rule of 1/3s. Good contribution to Friday theme.

Hi Carol,

Good textural details in the crumbling old brick fa軋de of this ruined old stone walled city. Good sharpness, graphism & tonal range, in this wonderful b&w image. The old town is well sited atop a hill overlooking the river. Tfs!

Ciao Carol, fascinating B&W composition with old ruines, excellent perspective, superb sky, splendid light and wonderful clarity, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio
