A different day and a different view. While riding the bus into the city the morning I took this photo I could see the tops of the taller buildings above the fog. Considering Launceston痴 奏aller buildings are no higher than 5 stories gives you some idea of the density of the fog banks.

Windeward Bound is a brigantine which is 24.1 metres in length (bowsprit another 9.1 metres), beam 6.3 metres and draught 3.2 metres.

There is space to carry 65 people in sheltered waters and to sleep up to 30 people, including crew, at sea. She is built almost entirely of recycled timber from historic boats and old buildings.

The whole project was backed by strong community, business and political support. The brigantine has taken shape over the past seven years under the hands of a team of more than 300 volunteers. Among them was a band of young people many of whom had been street kids, some of them young offenders. Windeward Bound (named after Mr. Lewis Winde, builder of an 1848 Boston schooner on which the Tasmanian vessel is modelled) was built in the former ANM shed at Pavilion Point and fitted out on the Hobart waterfront.

Her home port is Hobart and she is operated by a registered charity, the Windeward Bound Trust and is a sail-training vessel for all Tasmanians and Australians.

As a matter of interest for Dawn and Janice, Windwarde Bound was in Auckland during January 2006 to take part in the Auckland Harbour festival.

Quiet water, nice colours, excellent composition, simply a perfect ship picture.

Enric.

David, do you hear me aplaud for you ?
David this is exeptional good. Do you know the TV series the Onedin line? The only thing missing here is
Captain James Onedin staring over the waters.
On the 0-10 scale? an 11. Bye and thanks
Josine

Hi,David! Very great shot!!! Real photoart!!!Fantastic colours and reflection!Beautiful poetic atmosphere! Thanks! Best regards ! Yuri.

Hi David,
Great shot, caught the moment so well. The motionless water rendering it as a mirror to the brigantine and as one with the sky. Nice colours too.
Well done,
Salvu.

Hi David,
How DO you do it?! What an excellent shot. The clarity and the mood is almost unreal, and yet itエs like Iエm there.
Congratulations and thank you for shearing.
Kind regards,
Eva

Wow,very nice.
the color of Water is so similar to silver,
And the fog in the far makes it dreamy.
And opposite of the sky and water,Warm colors of the ship are so nice,
And the ship itself is very beautiful.
A good clear reflection completed the picture.
thanks...

Wonderful shot. Excellent clarity and sharpness. The water is smooth as glass and almost like the Ship is floating in air. Awesome colors. TFS! -Rossel

Hello David!

If I like yours posted yesterday!, I LOVE this one ! Superb light and composition . A real beauty . I wonder if I could try cloning the dredge in the background to make it like more
with a retro look. As usual a great Note !
Well done.
Robert

Hi David,
I adore when the horizon of the sky merges with water. It releases an very attractive unreality impression. Very good DOF and sharpness one the galleon and fine details one the mast. Very nicely done! Annie

beautiful image, David. I can't believe you took this shot from a bus! What a beautiful ship, great photograph.

hi David;

David, I like this very much. Awesome image, and it is good how all the masts are all on show too. And the reflections are so bright too, wish I could see more of them. (That's NOT a complaint!) Doesn't the fog emphasise the colours too? Well shown, it's a great job!Janice

A beautifil image with the reflection and the fog in the background. Sharp and nice colors.

Hi David,
It is quite an awesome effect when the magnificiant vessel is seen crisp and clear against the foggy background!
The lighting is awesome, and you make well use of it...
Greetings,
Pablo -

no horizon line, just hanging in the air, beautifull, the fog the reflections, wheh, great!!!

Hello David, Wow! I am amazed how this image is so razor sharp! I read your pp work, I generally do those things, but I don't get the same result!

Superb! And what a ship! so nice, with the fog on the water, the sky blends into the water. No riddles on the water. Everything is very still.

Great work, very done and seen! Tfs. Yan :)

Another great shot of this splendid ship.

Hello David,

I really admire the clarity/sharpness of this photo. Considering the foggy condition, the reflection is an added element. Very good!

Danilo

Hi Dave,

Real postcard quality work here!

Vivid colours & razor sharp details :)
Well done
Constantinos

Hi David,
What a beautiful photo with the sun just peeking through the mist. The light and colors are really beautiful so early in the morning, and you captured it magnificent. The composition with the brigantine on the right and the dredger behind it is excellent and show us the history of sailing. Great atmosphere and sharpness.

Niek
