I visited the city earlier in the week and a wandered around looking at various forms of architecture painted blue. A chance stumble upon an older photo of a tree trunk led to a walk in one of the forest areas this morning looking for an interesting bark. Thanks to Tracey for stepping in during Helen痴 absence and thanks too for the update on Helen痴 whereabouts.

In the workshop the from camera view.

There is no abstract art. You must always start with something. Afterward you can remove all traces of reality ~ Pablo Picasso

Hi David,

Abstract, somehow difficult for me to get a grasp at exactly what is is, but I have to say your quote of Pablo Picasso really helps.
Because you removed all colour, you did remove traces of reality here and all warmth is gone.

Lovely presentation to add to the theme.

Wow..
I love this David!
It's really great work. First of all the composition... It's so nice to every once in a while zoom in on things, specially things such as this trunk... Lovely!
Then I really like the blue tones of this. It really looks fabulous.
And then there is the "play" of light and shadows on your subject... absolutely gorgeous!!!

I really like this entry!

Cheers,
Anneke

this one is natural abstract from tree trunk.. the only different now you change it to cold one with the colours like that.. excellent job for this week theme, David.. good one too.. tfs..

Beautiful artwork, my friend.
The play of light and the tones are wonderful.

thanks,

Nice abstract here.

It's interesting to see the different forms of abstraction that have been posted to the theme so far.

To me this is abstract. I can see that it's a tree but it's not the tree itself that is the subject of the photo. It's the colours (tones in this case), light, shapes and lines.

Great shot David,

/Jens

definitely abstract, the horizontal composition adds to the feeling

Yes, these trees do have some super abstract patterns Dave. And I do like your B&W look very much. Paint it and you could make a lot of money!!
Well done - I like it
Janice

Hi David
Yes a true abstract from nature, well done! Love the B/W and agree with Janice...'Paint it and you could make a lot of money!!'

Thanks for joining the theme
Kind regards
Tracey

Hello David,

You are my neighbour today!
You have captured interesting details of the bark with this great close-up. Its fractured nature and the lack of colour certainly make it cold, lifeless.
The composition, with shades across the frame, is excellent.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)
Had to copy and save this as site has been down twice!

David Hi:

Wonderful for the Theme. Excellent textures and clarity of details. Very very interesting and impressively presented.

Congratulations, very nice, my friend

Hello David
Fantastic detail of the tree, very sharp and clear, with the blue tone adding an impressive cold effect.

This reminds me of a artists pallet in oils, my friend of many faces. I love getting real close to something and seeing all the great details inside. I wish I had read your Picasso quote earlier, abstract confesses me. Well set up image and the right amount of PP work to make it exciting.
Warmest Regards
Wanda

Bom dia David
Itエs really a very nice work... and you creat a beautiful mood.
Ok is cold but close to me.
have nice days
My regards

Hi David,

Great POV natures abstract is great the logs bark looks as if it has had the hand of man on it. The damage to the log has just added to composition and the b&w image has just finished it of nicely. Well done nice textures and tones.

Jon

A very interesting image and I'm glad you have included the workshop. Nice pp work. I don't really understand the 'abstract' idea at all, maybe in time :) but I like seeing the pictures posted. TFS

hello David

A fine contribution to the theme. The abstract has more complex level to undertand the nature of wood fibres and rings for its plant life. Cracks and knots - a basic property of wood.

tfs, bill

Hi,
very nice pattern - so different shot from your most works. Interesting take. I like the idea. tfs

An abstract true to your quote, as concrete as it can be. Well done, fine quality, rich tonal range.

Not that abstract imo, I see beautiful textures, David. Cold tones they are, the play of light adds a nice touch.

Hello David
Stunning color indeed on that detail of a trunk that looks like a piece of charcoal.
A pleasing array of random shapes showered of the full range of grey tones la Ansel Adams who developed the Zone System for fine art black and whites.
Have a g'day.
Robert

Hi David,

Stunning work you show us.
Perfect lighting with excellent textures and details. Good exposure, very sharp and clear.
Amazing composition. My compliments

The longer i look at this one the more i appreciate it. well done !

Nice work David! I like the textures here! Nature has lots of abstracts, this is no exception! The cool color makes it all work. Wood is normally a WARM color, until it dies! Nice details!

Hi David,
It's cold, there's almost no feeling at all.
It's abstract, for me anyway, without your note I'd have had no clue as to what it is.
Nice post work and vision/imagination.
TFS,
Wilt

hmmmm . . . interesting title because to me it seems anything but "cold" due to the interesting and rich textures of the wood. Whatever, I think it's a cool image.

Hi Dave,
Very nice abstract, beautiful texture.

Could be warm. Could be cold. I like the light, the varieties of texture. The few tones intensify the effect.

Hi David,
Well seen and done!
Nature is really a i source of inspiration for a photographer.
I like this treatment giving at the image a silky frozen aspect. We easily could see that by a clear moonlight in the forest! Bravo! Good to be here again!
