A rather murky day in Launceston and a camera battery about to run out, I had enough current left to take two photos of the old port area. This is one of them.

The Windeward Bound is a brigantine, modern, but traditional below decks and entirely traditional on and above deck. This beautiful brigantine has become a National Icon and has been described as a National treasure. She has recently circumnavigated Australia emulating the discoveries and honouring the 1802 voyage of Matthew Flinders, whose logs and journals provide the earliest observations of many parts of the Australian coast. He recorded flora and fauna, as well as the many contacts with the indigenous Australians.

The Professional Crew comprises:

Sarah Parry Master, Captain, Navigator, Sailing Master and Engineer
Dirk Lorenzen 1st Mate, Bosun, Engineer and relief Master
Malcolm Hunt, Georgina Micet, Gerry Fitzgerald, Peter Haberland and Jason Glover, Relief Mates and Engineers
and of course, TRIM, the reincarnation of Matthew Flinders' cat.

Lovely mood David. Refreshing too for those who experience summer now ;-)

Hi David,
This awesome photo and love the mood here.
Sailing and reflections and hazy weather looks pretty cool.
Excellent pov,dof,colors,mood,note and reflections.TFS

Hi Dave,

Murky would be an under statement, the only thing missing here is our friend "The Flying Dutchman" sailing with canons blazing!..lol...

Very moody composition with excelent reflections off the water!

Well done

The grey day adds to this one, so that the touch of colour on the boat and the dock stands out. It is unfortunate that the large building is in the background, but it is sufficiently muted not to disrupt the picture. Nice photo!

Hi David!
Your photo acts like a link between the old times and everyday reality. The misty contours of the brigantine brings a romantic feeling in the photo...
Thanks and best regards!

Hi David,
A very moody image, I guess the fog is the proof of winter...
Well composed image of this beautiful sailing vessel, nice tio see they are still operative!
The calmness of the waters allow for a pleasant reflection...

The fog looks great here David, especially dulling the square building in the BG!! What a super view it would be without it! I like how the bright colours, red, blue and green, appear through the fog. Well done,

Hi David,
Here in Quebec (Canada), there are many legends of ghost ships. Your photo would make a good illustration for these stories. With the fog, there is a mysterious mood very intriguing. Excellent good shot. I like much the tones slightly fuzzy. Congratulations! Annie

I think I saw a documentary film about Matthew Flinders or was that a vacation on board on a ship like this...nevermind. Nice foggy mood my only regret are the silos in the bg but that can't be helped.

Hi David,
You're really the specialist of working with the fog, creating superb mood and great photos. I like the quietness of this photo with the great reflection and this little red spot. Very well done.

Awesome composition. On the surface it seems unbalanced but the extra space puts a sense of port now. The clounds the mist intoxicatingly beautiful. There is a strong feeling of calm and serenity. Brilliant.
