NZ darkest day - 12th October 1917 The battle of Passchendaele.
846 NZ soldiers were killed in action on this day 100years ago, another 100 or so died of their wounds. It took 4 days to remove the dead.
2412 NZ solders were killed at Passchendaele from August to November - each one of them is rembered here with a white cross for every man who did not return.

Ode to the Fallen by Laurence Binyon.
窶弋hey shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.窶

Hi Jack
I have visited a number of WWII and WWI military cemeteries in France, Belgium and Holland and have been moved by the sheer loss of so many young men and women just to achieve one man's greed.
It is an honour that 'we' still can remember them and that they will never be forgotten.
I have several friends in France, Belgium and Germany and the welcome and thanks I feel from the French and Belgian friends is truly amazing. And my German friends feel so much remorse and embarrassment for their country's history. We cannot let another conflict happen on such a scale.

Hi Jack
One of the most beautiful and painful depths I've ever seen.
I remembered the last movement of the Passion According to Saint Matheus from Bach.
